Lasting.

We believe…

lasting means that we only make a hats when we receive your order. Contrary to fast fashion, and ever-changing styles resulting in unsold items going to landfill, made to order puts ethical sustainability over quantity. We believe this is the future of sustainable shopping, and that being conscious of this is the way to care for our planet. That’s why we apply it to our woolly hats.

“In the UK alone, 10,000 items of clothing are sent to landfill every five minutes. This is equivalent to £140 million in value every year “- source: Wrap

Slow Fashion

We get it. Waiting for stuff you’ve bought online can be frustrating. We’ve become so used to next day deliveries and instant gratification. But in order to be able to send a fashion item immediately, companies have to make their products in advance. In every size and every colour combination. When the next collection is due and they don’t get sold, guess what? They end up in landfill.

Research by the Ellen Mcarthur Foundation, suggests clothing production has doubled in the last 15 years.

Multinational High Street brands are pushing an increasing demand for more seasons, more styles, and more sales. The fast fashion industry is now churning out an average of 52 ‘micro-seasons’ a year, a jaw-dropping number considering that just 20 years ago we only had two. With each season comes a new release of clothes; and more clothes sent to the waste heap as they lose popularity.

This need to constantly be ‘up-to-date’ is one of the many reasons that the industry has such a colossal environmental impact. Rather than producing classic and original designs that will stay in style for years to come, garments are discarded from season to season – with the landfill being the resting place for many unwanted goods,

Environmental damage

Fast Fashion has come under significant criticism for its high levels of wastage. From over-stocking, to the emissions caused by producing so many garments, Fast Fashion is one of the worst offenders for doing damage to the environment, responsible for 10% of humanities carbon emissions (That’s more than international flights) and the second largest consumer of the world’s water supply.

So if we’re trying to avoid buying from fast fashion chains, then what are the other alternatives available?

Made to Order

We believe made to order is the only real alternative to fast fashion. Made to Order is a making process in which a product is made only after your order is received. Whilst making it is usually slower, it offers a higher quality, a personal touch and a more ethical product to the mass fast-fashion market.

And it’s really exciting too! A bit like the days before credit cards, when you had to save up for stuff before you could buy it. The anticipation of waiting eagerly for the post, the hiss of scissors through packaging, the conversations with the creators focussed entirely on making something just for you. And when you finally get to see it for the first time, the thrill of knowing that it is uniquely yours.

A great experience

The custom aspect of not buying off the rack, but choosing exactly what you want, is one of the best shopping experiences money can buy. It is unique, it’s divine, it’s eco-friendly and so much more sustainable. When it comes to satisfaction, we believe nothing can beat made to order.

Buying made to order clothing ensures that there isn’t any overproduction, resulting in both less product waste – and less emissions released. Because each item is only produced for its demand, and is created with high quality in mind, we throw nothing away.

Some of the many benefits of made to order include:

  1. Higher quality product with a traceable production history.

  2. Less waste (or even none)

  3. Reduced environmental impact

  4. Long term, it is cheaper.

Conscious Consumption

We believe the key to making ethical and sustainable fashion choices is conscious consumption. Understanding how the product is created, when it is created and that it is created just for you is about as conscious as you can get.

A personal touch

We believe offering a made to order service gives the buying process a personal touch and allows the focus to be on you, rather than stock numbers. It stops being about sales and starts being about offering a lovable and waste-free alternative to High Street shops.

We strive for quality over quantity with our hats, preferring them to last longer and for you to buy less.

A positive impact

Not only is this more environmentally responsible, it also goes a long way economically. Rather than needing to buy something new every year, taking the plunge and buying a high-quality piece of clothing means you’ll have one that (if looked after properly) will last you years. It will stay in style, a classic reminder of the positive impact of sustainable practises and a fashionable signature piece designed with your style in mind.

Nothing beats high quality, and nothing beats an experience in which your personal touch can be added to your purchase. Discussions about colours, sizes, designs and styles are all important to ensure you come away with the product of your dreams.  That is why we love to hear from you, because what you think matters to us.

Alongside buying a product you want; we believe buying made to order will give you something to cherish and love. You will have the expert guidance and advice in choosing something that will suit your needs, along with the ability to deviate from “a standard” product, and from the ordinary.
